Jacob said blueberry muffins sounded like the perfect 6th birthday breakfast food so that's what we had!
Can you tell he's excited about being 6 today?
Yes, he has a solid milk chocolate birthday candle on his muffin... because thats how we roll.
This was his 2nd time blowing out the candle. He was so excited to blow it out that he initially blew it out before we finished singing to him!
Why eat a blueberry muffin when you can start your day with chocolate?
YUM!
It's obvious that everyone wanted to taste the candle!
Emily was just staring at Jacob while he nibbled away on it.
Can you believe she's 3 months old already?
I'm so thankful I can dress her in cute stuff! Jacob was offerring a bite of his candle to Daniel..though I'm sure Emily would've licked it if she would've been given the opportunity!
He shared with Zach..and I think Zach ate half of it in one bite!
She was just mesmerized! I really need to take the picture of Mr. Angry Head behind bars down from my dining room!!!
He got to the candle inside of the chocolate...
I had this great plan for the day, we were going to take the boys to school and then we were going to get Jacob a happy meal and take it to school and have lunch with him (and bring cupcakes of course). I said something along the lines of "How would you like it if we came and had lunch with you at school today?" to him this morning and guess what he said??? "No, not really." Talk about feeling rejected!!!!! My poor little heart just sank! When he saw how sad I was he told me we could come and have lunch with him. And of course, I was set on having lunch with him and couldn't let it go but after thinking about it for a few minutes I told him if he really didn't want me to eat with him then I wouldn't; I'd just bring his lunch and the cupcakes and that'd be it. He said that was what he wanted but if I really wanted to stay I could. (I could tell he just wanted to have lunch with his friends though!) I suggested he think about it and then tell me when we got to school that morning. Of course I was secretly hoping he'd want me to have lunch with him but nope, he didn't. :-)
Waiting outside of school for the bell.
In the cafeteria! He was quite excited about having his chicken nuggets and chocolate milk. He got to wear his birthday crown all day at school too. And a birthday bracelet. His teacher (and student teacher) are so nice!
He even put his arm around me at school for a picture! He really seemed excited that we were there (maybe it was the McDonalds...or the cupcakes we brought). I think he was just worried we were going to ruin his lunchtime fun!
Jacob with his cake. He's still our tractor boy at heart.
The cake was a family effort. I got ready to decorate it and then Emily was hungry so I asked Daniel if he was up for the challenge of making grass. Between him and the boys they made the pasture and the bottom border, then they crushed up graham crackers for the dirt and sprinkled them around (although I didn't really think that through---trying to write on top of crumbs is quite tricky!). After I came back into the kitchen and did the top border they put the farm scene on top.
He was hiding so it would just be the cake in the picture.
I thought Zach was being silly here...but about a second later he took a bite out of the icing and then quickly got swooped away and put in time out.
Jacob said he wanted chinese food for dinner--Daniel tried as hard as he could to convince Jake that we should go to a restaurant where they cook in front of you. Apparently one of Jacob's friends at school has been to one and has talked about them tossing shrimp into people's mouths. He's like his momma and doesn't eat seafood...and I'm pretty sure was scared to death that they would try and get him to eat a shrimp!!! We ended up at the chinese place Jake likes. One day we're taking them to a hibachi...and they will like it (but there won't be any shrimp being tossed to us!)!!
These were all taken before we left for dinner. He was so excited and was trying to guess what his gifts were. He got the big rectangular one right but Daniel tried to convince him it was something else (unsuccessfully!).
Back at home...time for cake!!
This picture captures his excitement perfectly!
woo-hooo!
Wait a second! How'd that happen?!?!
Waiting to see if it happened again!
So I bought the Wilton brand of "trick" candles. They were terrible. One of them relit but the rest were done after he blew them out. After we put them to bed Daniel and I tested them out too and had the same results. I was highly disappointed with them and wouldn't buy that brand of trick candles again! (and as soon as I get some free time (ha! what's free time???) I'm writing them a letter expressing how dissatisfied I am with those stinkin' candles.)
Presents!!!
Zach, Emily, and I shopped for Jacob's presents.
We picked up a Mario dvd for Daniel to give him. Does he still get credit for giving it to him when he didn't pick it out, wrap it, or even know what it was before Jake opened it?
Jake loved it, of course. Thanks, dad! Good Job, hubs!
Super excited about his card from Zach and Emily. He had actually already seen the card since I had it on the table for Zach to sign..and he signed it right in front of Jake!
Zach could barely wait for Jacob to open his present but he did so good with not telling him what we got him. He's a much better secret keeper when it comes to presents than I am!
Zach picked out a Hulk Lego super hero guy for Jake. As you can see, Jacob loved it and was very appreciative!
Emily got Jacob a Mario on a motorcycle.
He loved it too.
The "present" from me wasn't really a fun present. I got him a new carseat. Just the booster seat. He's been tall enough for one for he last 2 years...and probably weighed enough for it for even longer. A few of his friends are in (no back) booster seats and I figured it was time. Even though it was not exactly what one would want to get for a present, he was thrilled. So excited for a new carseat. Go me!!
It took them a little while to get it all the way out of the bag. :-) It was jammed in pretty darn well!
On to the big present...this one was from all of us.
He was right! It's a big dinosaur lego set. It's the only thing Jacob has told me he wanted for his birthday for the last 2 months. Seriously. This has been every conversation:
Me: Jacob, what would you like for your birthday?
Jacob: That cool big dinosaur lego set we saw at Target when we were getting Zach's birthday present.
I told him if we got it for him it would be the only thing from us and he said that was fine with him and it was the only thing he wanted.
Both boys really wanted to open it up tonight..but by the time we were done opening presents it was already past 8. We let them build the Mario and motorcycle and the Hulk figure.. Jacob said "this is so awesome!! I'm going to take this to Granny's house!!!" Daniel explained to him that the reason we let him open it here was so that we didn't scatter lego pieces all over granny & pa's house! We'll see what he says when we go to leave tomorrow evening and don't have it packed!
They were both staring at the box!
Yummy cake and ice cream!!
He said he had a great birthday! I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for him!
