Just another illustration of the size of the toy box! Grandpa is modifying them with a drawer so they'll be less deep... then he'll be delivering them! (And Zach had superhero undies on--no worries!)
silly boys being goofy with each other at Granny & Pa's.
Daniel wanted to take his dad somewhere fun to celebrate his birthday ... He decided Bush Garden's Christmas Town would be the place! (Though we didn't go on his birthday, we went out to lunch with him on his birthday and then took him to BG on Friday.) It was really nice to get to spend the day with him! Before we made it to BG though....we stopped at Krispy Kreme for some scrumptious donuts!
future donut eater.
YUM! He ate 3 1/2 donuts.
He ate 1 1/2 donuts.
Emily wanted to help Zach out a little. "Gimme that donut, Zachy!"
Then we were off!
Jacob was trying to show Daniel the map while walking.
Here's where the penguins are, dad! That's where we want to go.
However, as we were walking towards where the penguins were at, there was a ride open that Jacob could get on so Daniel, his dad, and Jacob all headed into the ride (something about Europe maybe?). Zach, Emily, and I stood outside of the ride for all of 5 seconds before he said "Let's go to the penguins, mom!" Away we went!
We had to wait in line for about 30 minutes I'd say. I kept checking the time on my phone and saying to myself "What on earth could they be doing for this long?" I figured we'd get up to the front of the line and I'd get a call or text asking where we were. Nope.
We made it entirely through the penguin exhibit (which wasn't much at all for the amount of time we waited) and then headed back towards where we left the others.
While on the way back, we stopped to look at the wolves (again). After a few minutes my phone rang and alas, it was Daniel wondering where we were. And guess what the first thing Jacob said when they caught up to us was???
"Can we go see the penguins now?"
Of course we did because that was the original destination when they got sidetracked. The problem now was the line was considerably longer than when it was just Zach, Emily, and I. I'm pretty sure we waited an hour in line. A long, exhausting hour with 3 kids. Daniel's dad was smart, he said he was going to take a break and sit out the penguin exhibit. (Though after standing in line for 30 minutes and barely moving I thought he might be thinking that we left him!)
Zach waiting sort of patiently before we got into the exhibit.
Emily being oh so cute. Have I mentioned it was quite chilly? Look at her little pink nose.
ahhhh, the carousel. The boys couldn't however pick horses on the same row though. Jacob wanted the horse with the red mohawk and Zach wanted whichever he got. At least they were right in front of and right behind the sleigh that Emily and I got to relax on. (And I was quite thankful that it was a short whirl on the carousel because I might've just gotten sick from the spinning if it would've lasted much longer!)
Zach and Dee-Daw. Not the best picture but I was thrilled to pieces to have one with Dee-Daw smiling!
Emily wasn't allowed to ride on a horse but we plopped her on one for a photo before the ride began!
riding on a train through the park at night.
Quite possibly the only bit of proof that I was actually there!
(and the only picture Daniel took because he was unsure about my camera settings!)
"Granny's trees" as the boys call them since they had purple lights with a pretty cool light display behind Santa!
That was the end of our Friday night. We figure we walked Daniel's dads legs about as much as we possibly could've. I figured he'd spend all of Saturday recuperating from the abuse we put him through!
Saturday morning we packed up and headed home. We got to see Rose (my cousin) for a teeny tiny bit which was nice. When we got home there was about an inch of snow on the ground--and you'd have thought the boys had never seen snow before.
Not sure if the shovel was supposed to be like a baseball bat for the snowball Zach threw at Jacob or what!
He makes the snow look deeper than it was!
Going after Daniel.
Coming after me. I just love the movement in this picture. :-)
Would you believe he jumped out of the van in short sleeves and barefoot when we got home? He was that excited to play in the snow.
Got him!
Snowball fight!
Zach nailed him and Jake was about to!
Love it!
They had the best time.
I guess Zach needed shoveling?
and it doesn't matter how little snow you have, snow angels are a must!
The next day (New Year's Eve)......
Mom, I'm feeding Emily her puffs! She doesn't appear to be enjoying it!
Pretty sure she's trying to chomp on it with her one tooth.
Yep, Santa brought her a tooth for Christmas. :-)
Not a great picture but it makes me laugh. I can picture Jacob throwing puffs into her mouth (even though it's not what happened here...)
Isn't this the best picture ever?
little butterfly butt.
Could they really both have a finger in their mouth?
Since it was New Year's Eve, it was time for our 3rd annual Durrbeck-Longeway-Rubinstein New Year's Eve Extravaganza (at least I think thats what Megan called it the first year!). The Longeway's hosted this year...
Star Wars was on tv so they were all parked on the couch for a teensy bit.
Present time! Emily wanted the box, not the clothes.
I made Emma and Abby a tutu and wand. Looks like Emma likes it!
And Emily likes bows.
And this is what happened when Daniel took the bow from her so she could open another present.
She only wanted the bow. (I should note though that she was MUCH happier playing with the toy today!)
Abby in her tutu!
We had a fun time! I brought Emily home just before 8 since she was super cranky and tired. Daniel came home with the boys soon after. I planned to stay up til midnight....somewhere around 11 I fell asleep. Daniel was across the street playing MarioKart with the neighbors and I was tired! He did wake me up to watch the ball drop though....I grumpily said happy new year and crawled upstairs to my bed!
Happy New Year!
We celebrated the new year this morning at breakfast. French toast casserole and bacon with sparkling grape juice.
Jacob said he liked the sparkling grape juice but I'm not sure he really did. (he did finish it ..just not quickly.)
Zach said it was too spicy!
Daniel and I used our redneck wine glasses thanks to Steve & Marcia!
Proof that Emily did like her toy from the Rubinsteins!
And how Emily ended her day...
First time sitting up in her bath tub!
"Come here, ducky!"
I got him!
Daniel found mustache magnets at Kohl's on clearance....and then tried them out on the only 2 pictures on our fridge....
Sarah and I especially look good!
Now you should feel updated on our lives for the past week!
