We started out with a visit from my grandparents on Saturday. :)
Yesterday was low key-church to start off our day followed by playing at home then dog training with Huck (where he peed all over the floor while the trainer was talking), then more playing and relaxing at home.
Today (Memorial Day) we had even more fun at home! I got the moonbounce out for the kids this morning and somehow we convinced Emily that she would have fun if she would actually get in! She ended up having a blast!
I worked on cutting the grass while the kids were bouncing.
Emily decided playing with her pink ball would be more fun than being in the moonbounce.
The kids played in our little pool...
At some point in the middle of these pictures I walked the boys to a friend's house in the neighborhood to play for a bit. They were so excited and I don't think they had ever raced up the hill quite as quickly as they did today! I didn't race--I huffed and puffed as I pushed Emily in her pink car! She was excited for the boys to go to Mr. Mefford's house too because that meant she got to play in her little pool all by herself! (and don't worry, I didn't have to face going up the hill twice since he brought the boys home for me!) The kids all played even more when the boys got home.
We had a fantastic picnic. burgers. watermelon. root beer floats. and ice cream cake.
mmmmmmmmm
(and the kids also had popsicles at the friend's house earlier....and then popsicles with another neighbor while we were all out playing after dinner! possibly enough sugar for the next month all in one day!)
AND the boys spit watermelon seeds. If only Daniel could've been here.... ;)
the spit to seed ratio is a bit unbalanced
Jacob's didn't go far but he got an A for effort.
and our minty ice cream cake. Dianne--we were thinking of you!
I had mentioned to the kids earlier that I wanted to get a nice picture of them together with their "pretty" clothes on.. then I figured it wasn't happening. I sent Jacob upstairs to get pj's on after his shower and he came down all dressed up. He remembered I wanted a nice picture of them and picked out something that he thought would be perfect for Memorial Day. He helped Zach too. I figured I may as well put the girl in her dress too! (and I'll just keep to myself how many pictures I had to take to get a few decent ones. I kept the ones of Emily flashing her big girl panties to the world off of here. you're welcome!) After our pictures it was time for sparklers!
the "silly face" picture might actually be the best one I have of all 3..likely because it didn't require everyone to look at the camera at the exact same time.
SPARKLERS!
Such a FUN day! The boys said I made it the best Memorial Day ever (but they wished their daddy was here!). We talked about the reason for the holiday as well as got to applaud many veterans at church, one from as far back as WWII, along with other retired veterans and active duty soldiers. Jacob apparently wasn't paying attention but was clapping along with everyone when he turned to me and said "wait, what are we doing? who are these people and why are we clapping?" It was a great moment to be able to talk about people protecting our freedom. He was really impressed that a WWII veteran is a parishioner at our church. :)
