Jacob's First Holy Communion

Jacob received his First Holy Communion at St. Mary's in Blacksburg yesterday. It was a proud moment for Daniel and myself as well as our family that gathered to support him. He was eagerly anticipating receiving communion as he leaned over to me during mass and whispered "I want it so badly!!" Then every time the priest moved after the Gospel he would ask "Is it time yet?" It was a beautiful ceremony and all of the First Communion class did a great job. (side note--there aren't any pictures here from during Mass.)

Jacob with his banner that we made. It served as our pew "reserver." This was something each family did individually. My mom and I were recalling that when I received my First Communion the entire group made one banner together that was displayed on the altar. Doing it individually was really nice because he got to pick exactly how he wanted it to look--he drew everything out on paper and then together we created it out of felt.

it was such a beautiful day!

And I did take my camera and take a few shots outside before mass.

"are we done? my smile hurts."
almost buddy, almost. (luckily we had already had his picture taken with the photographer!)

such a pretty church.

We couldn't have asked for a nicer day or a more perfect setting for such a special time in Jacob's life.

After Mass with Father Remi.

We celebrated afterwards at a tasty restaurant where I totally forgot to take any pictures. :)
Thanks to everyone who shared in our celebration. There was so much love and support surrounding Jacob during another big religious event in his life!

This one was from First Communion practice a few nights ago. He was so excited to be there!
