Zach's 1st Whiffle T-Ball Game!

Zach had his first whiffle t-ball game tonight and seemed to love it!

Every good mom has a picture (or ten) of their kid picking his nose while playing t-ball.
 I'm no exception.

Based on what I read on our town's website, whiffle t-ball is for 3 and 4 year olds. Jacob did it last year and I think he'd be bored if he were doing it this year. The "field" is considerably smaller than a regular t-ball field and they're on grass using foam bats and whiffle balls.
The boy standing next to Zach is 5 1/2. Clearly he's too big and needs to be on a regular t-ball team (but thats just my opinion). I'm not sure how Zach managed to get the ball because between that boy and another that appears to be the same age, nobody else seemed to get it!

And yes, that would be a pink ball. There are 2 girls on the team so they included a pink ball. Coach Daniel (or Coach Dad as Zach calls him) came up with the plan for using the white whiffle balls for their "practice" at bats and when they hit the pink ball they got to run to first. It worked well!

Zach's turn to bat...
determined..

look at his face!

homerun!!

there he goes...

Look closely next to the little girl and you can see where third "base" is painted on the field. That gives you an idea of how small the field actually is (Zach is just a couple feet in front of home plate).

rounding first base... he was supposed to stop at first.

we told him to touch home plate.. and he barely did.

I'd say it was a good first practice for the kids. They all seemed to enjoy themselves and Daniel seemed to learn all 9 of the player's names! Another of the kids on the team actually goes to Preschool with the boys so they had a good time running around with him before practice started. I was glad that once practice started, Jacob sat nicely next to me instead of running around like a nut (like a few other siblings that we didn't know did!).

We finished off our evening with popsicles and swinging on the tree swings. Then after we got the boys to bed Daniel and I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the slightly cooler temperature!
